The camera comes with dual 1/2.3-inch sensors (f/2.0 aperture size), so customers can expect pretty decent performance. When both sensors are combined, the Ricoh Theta S is capable of providing images and videos in up to 14MP quality.
The camera will be sold through Amazon India in as well as select Ricoh resellers in the country. Given the cost of the camera, Ricoh is letting customers pay Rs 7,199 initially as the pre-booking amount while the rest of the balance can be paid at a later date.
To enhance user experience, Ricoh also has a companion app called Theta for Android and iOS, letting you use your mobile device as a remote for the camera while also letting you view the photos and videos that you’ve taken. There’s a photo editing software called Theta+, giving you the ability to edit content on the go.
Perhaps the only downside here with the Theta S is that it comes with 8GB of internal storage and no card slot, so customers have to make do with the onboard storage to satisfy their camera needs. Needless to say, the storage will run out pretty quickly. The camera can take 1080p videos in 25 or 30fps for about 25 minutes.
Speaking at the launch event, Manoj Kumar, managing director and CEO of Ricoh India said, “The improved camera is four times faster with enhanced image quality. Industries like real estate, architecture, events, travel & leisure will be benefited through this innovative solution which capture’s photographer 360 degrees.”
